I've Run Amuck

Another weekend is coming to an end and I don't have much to show for it. The work week was one of the longest short weeks I've ever worked. I must of been delirious by Thursday because at the office picnic meeting I raised my hand and volunteered to make over a hundred cupcakes. I am NUTS!! This has been the hottest week of the year, hitting triple digits for the last few days and I'm gonna bake cupcakes, amuck, yes, amuck!
It seems this past two weeks all I've been doing is shopping. Since I don't have any "product" to show you, I'll share my purchases. Last weekend was Labor Day weekend, good for sales.
Saturday, on the way to my Aunts for dinner, I dropped in at the Quilter's Inn, then stopped at In Between Stitches. I've been collecting black/tans for this project. So far I have this plus some black and whites to maybe tea/coffe dye and another bag full of black/tan that I can't find. Maybe its in the trunk of the car? I hope so... not that I need it, I probably have enough here to make that quilt 3 times! amuck, yes, amuck! I will still continue to pick them up until I get the quilt made. I'm like that. I love little collections.
Here are a few other things I picked up, no particular reason in mind, like I mentioned... amuck!
I thought that maybe Labor Day weekend would be a good time to purchase a light box. I have been using a tiny one for a long time now, or putting my ott lamp under my sewing machine extension table. I headed out with coupons in hand. First stop was Aaron Bros., they had the 12x18 Lite Tracer for $69.99 on sale from $89.99. They wouldn't let me us my coupon. So I trekked over to Michael's Crafts, they only had the smaller version for $49.99, I did have 50% off coupon, but now I wanted the big one! Next stop.. Joann's they did have the larger version at a price of $129.99 (what a mark up!) & I had a 40% off coupon. Hmmm... NOT! One more place.. Beverly's. WHOOHOO they not only had the larger version at $89.99, but they also let me use Michael's 50% off coupon. This light box is so awesome!! Beverly's also had all of their fabric at 25% off for the day and some of it followed me home. amuck, yes, amuck!
I've already put my light box to good use. I've been tracing little stitchery designs for the retreat pincushions.
So on to this weekend... Unfortunately I used permanent red ink (for redwork) and found that the size of the design was too large. Wasted a yard of fabric and time, but I'm getting good use of my light box! Yesterday I went to the post office and mailed off all of the prizes for my give aways and the swap bag. What a great feeling to get those packages on their way!
On the way home I stopped in at Thimble Creek to replace to fabric I wasted. They were having a sale on fat quarters and who can resist, so this little pile followed me home. amuck, yes, amuck!
My condo has piles all over the place but it smells good in here. I have a few cupcakes too! I've gotten them all baked. No these aren't designer cupcakes, these are the cupcakes that your Mom made and sent you to school with. Thank goodness for Duncan Hines. I'm freezing them and will pull them out on Wednesday nite to frost them for Thursday. And yes Sharon, that is a cake tester!
Hope you have a wonderful week! xomar

Oh Marlene!! one hundred cupcakes??!!! Poor you and that jerky arm of yours. I bet you are fun at an auction, too!!

Really, even when it's not hot out, 100 cupcakes is a huge undertaking. Good for you for doing it!

And I love how you shop. A little of this and a little of that...... (I also love black/tan together. Good choice.)

I feel so inadequate! I did manage to order a hot fix wand and some crystals, bling, bling.

Oh, I saw my new favorite fabric in one of your purchases. :)

OMG Mar! 100 cupcakes ..... please do take a photo of them all when they're ready to go to the picnic.

I also have cupcakes to bake this week .... only 23 though thank goodness! My little girl turns 9 next weekend.

The black and tan fabrics will be absolutely gorgeous with the stitchery.

LOL...he is a gem isn't he......it is just the right size to sit on my lap when I am tracing stuff off...and I do a lot of it as you know I love to do stitcheries......!!First day of my two weeks off and look it is just flying by already...... :( still I have had a fun morning ....and am about to get into the sewing room......yay!!

Hi Mar!

Looks like a "productive Labor Day!" I love all of your necessary purchases! I have been looking at that Crab Apple Hill pattern and I can't wait to see your completed version. I know that I will love it because we have similar tastes! Let me know if you want me to hunt down more cream/tan/black fabric for you. I could use any excuse to fabric shop!

Thanks for sharing the info on the lightbox. That is on my wishlist also!

Good luck w/the cupcakes! Hopefully Mrs. Red won't come and try and take them! You know she is! I'm just sayin!

You're going to love that big light tracer, that's the size I have as well. Love all your stacks of stuff!

Mar you are a dear jewel to do all those cupcakes.
I too love to collect fabric for collections. And like you I just keep collecting as long as I haven't made a quilt out of them. A little here and a little there. LOL
I will call you for help as soon as I am ready and thank you.

I LOVE that Over the River pattern and can't wait to see yours finished.

Hope you have a decorating bag for those cupcakes.........it's much easier to just spiral that icing on than to do it with a spatula, IMHO :)

Your shopping persistance netted you some good savings on the tracer thing. I want one of those. I have a little table affair that you put an Ott light under. That was one of the first things that came out on the market for tracing.
I find that blacks are hard to find.
100 cupcakes! Yikes.

My goodness you are running amuck! Look at all those cupcakes! I bought that pattern too for the black and tan quilt---love it. I haven't been to a Beverlys in ages! We had one in Calif. and I miss it! Joanns just doesn't compare. So I go to quilt shops mostly. Keep collecting, pretty soon you'll have all the blacks and tans you need!!

Really enjoyed reading this post. I just love my lightbox, I don't know how I ever got along without it. Good for you finding it at a good price. And the pattern you are collecting for, I really like that one!!! It will be a beautiful quilt when you finish, that's for sure. I may have to get the pattern so I can slobber all over it and put it with the others I want to make "someday". Hope your week is going wel!

I think it's healthy to go amuck from time to time. I love all the things you bought during your running amuck! But, baking cupcakes in the heat? You're made of stronger stuff than I am, that's for sure! I also have a light box, and I don't know how I ever lived without it - you paid a wonderful price for yours.
