Ahhh Don't you love Fridays? Especially if you don't have to go to work? I had a great day, I pieced the back of the turtle quilt, took it down to the LQS, Main Street Quilts in Martinez, and got it pin basted. Spent hours there just chatting with the owner, Susie and customers as they came and went. It's always so inspiring. Didn't bring much home , just some thread for quilting the turtles and a pattern. I won a jelly roll of the Strawberry Lemonade line a while back and haven't made up my mind what to make with it yet. Maybe this pattern? Split Decision - No need to make up my mind now. Too many other irons in the fire. I was going to meet some good quilting friends and go to a quilt show in Watsonville tomorrow, but I keep hearing that there is going to be a big storm coming in tonite and will be with us through Sunday. I think I will just snuggle up and stay in. Not a good time to be on the road. I stopped at the grocery on the way home and got some ingredients for soup, my netflix movie selection "Becoming Jane" was in my mail box and there is the turtle quilt to get quilted! Not to mention that I have 59 of 60 socks to work on. My friend over at Rabbit Stitchings asked if I was knitting. Nooooo these are of fabric and they are blocks not real socks, for this: Lost Socks quilt. I'm doing a swap with some close friends. Here's my first.I've decided to try the starch method that everyone uses. Being a needle turner I thought it was too much prep time, but I'm finding that I like having them sooo ready to go! But the jury is still out on this method. This is a very simple pattern and I think that corners are easier to needle turn. I'm going to go get cozy! Happy stitching!

Those socks look like a lot of fun. When I finally got the hang of needleturn, I retired starching *s*

Watsonville sure makes me think of artichokes *yum*

Cute sock quilt! I just found your blog - I am also in Martinez, love Main Street Quilts and chatting with Susie. . . I agree that you are wise to stay in tomorrow. I heard we are due for 70 mph winds tomorrow night. Batten down the hatches!

Okay that sock quilt is to cute! I like your sock fabrics :O)...
I am sad to say I have not learned needle turn or the starch method of applique. I can do blanket stitch applique :O)... I do so want to learn the other kind. Some patterns I like with blanket but some I think cry out for the other :O)..

Oh, I love your sock! Did you get the storm? What kind of soup did you make? Would you change my link on the side from Sunshine Quilts to Patchwork Times? Please??? :)

That's going to be a cute sock quilt! And the pattern you are thinking of using for your jelly roll should look great with that fabric! Adding it to the pile, right? lol

Love the sock block and I also love that Split Decision quilt! Very cute. I hope you get to it for us...hee hee. And I tried the starch method...I didn't like the "feel" of it--too stiff, not to mention flaky and hard to get thru with a needle. I like the softness of the fabric as I do needleturn. (But I like my freezer paper the best..) Stay dry!

Hi! I found you swapping socks, like me! I wanted to post this here, hope that's OK. Wanted to tell Ruthie that the socks are not Pepto Bismol colored (I think that's why she almost choked and died) They are actually really nice Pink (Thimbleberries,Flannel Favorites) and the heels and toes are an "Old pink"( Maywood's New Woolies Flannels Light).
I just think my camera hates me and wants my socks to look crappy! The pics make them look light bright and bold, none apply to them...the colors are muted and very primitive. the backgrounds are golden yellow and in the picture they look pea green, bold white and some mystery color...
Also wanted to add that our swap blocks are flannel. Heat and Bond works really well when you are working with flannels and want your blocks to be nice and straight. The heat and bond that is really hard and stiff is the Heavy; if you use the light you're golden. Your blocks will be straight and your fabrics wont pull or go lopsided.
Hope your swappers feel free to come and check our progress. Brenda=)
